MORE OF MAKING LEMONADE FROM LEMONS

Gotta laugh right?

When life throws so much at you all at once....what else can you do? Cry...well, maybe for a while. Go to bed and cover up your head?  OR start over...or again...or wherever your situation has landed you.

So...here is what I decided to do...start over, revamp and learn from the experience. Which lead me to my blog...so here is another lemon.

Take a gentle peek at my new blog design. I say gentle because I really AM aware...honest I am...that there is this huge space between the headers and the content. This is what I get from using the DESIGN element that is new to Blogger. I am sure at some point I'll figure out what to do in order to correct this slight set back. HOWEVER, in the meantime I'm just gonna leave it. There ARE more pressing issues to deal with right now.

I did however get a new project finished today.
Didn't think it would happen but it did...take a look and see what I made for me.

So, here it is...it is a KNOCK OFF of my own design...how is that for copy write infringement...lol.  I've redesigned an old stand by pattern I designed years ago. While it is utilitarian in nature it is quiet lovely and hip. An inset of a coordinating fabric can either be worn around the waist or as an empire for the younger crowd. The ties are simple yet cute and the tie around the neck isn't my usual. So, tell me please....would you like the apron or the pattern?
Contact me through my Grandpa Grandmas Attic shop or at Handmade with Love.  Since I haven't listed it yet you will have to ask for CUSTOM order for new NEW APRON design.
:-)
Heck call me if you like...just remember when calling though...you will get a weird little recording but you know what to do.
Just leave your message if I don't answer and I'll get right back to you.

I'm VERY Sad This Morning!

As of  yesterday June 1st Handmade with Love will no longer carry PDF Black Cat Creations patterns. As most of you know I work at my local quilt store and our owner called me into her office to say that what I'm doing is "conflict of interest". Earlier this year she also told me she thought my carrying PDF patterns at all was a conflict so....I may be forced to remove ALL PDF patterns from all my sites. :-(

Having said that, I have made the decision to cancel my plans for a stand alone site. I can not afford to lose my job or my health insurance because of "a conflict of interest" and knowing "all of our stores vendors" she is concerned that I will be in direct conflict with her online store as well as her brick and mortar locations. (Guess I should be flattered! ~grin~grin~grin.)

Anyway, if any of you would like a hard copy of Black Cat Creations patterns please go to their site at http://www.black-cat-creations.com/. Amy Cotham and Judy Reynolds are super fine ladies and would love to hear from you.

OH MY!

I can NOT believe it's been 10 days since my last blog update and 3days past the time I promised myself and announced to the world that Handmade with Love was going live!!!

However, I'm giving myself a break...considering I work a 40 hour week "real" job, already own 2 online venues where I sell wares, Twitter, FaceBook and trying to get my new site up and running it's no wonder I haven't blogged in days! Whew I'm tired.

I now have a bit of help...the parts of my new online store that I can't do right now...a friend is helping. SO, perhaps it won't be long at all before I can hit the "LIVE" button!

My dear hubby has been so patient and encouraging! The many nights sitting in front of my laptop with fingers flying over the key board, listening to me grumble when things don't go quite right, he has consistently sat here lovingly with me and spoke words of truth and has uplifted. Thank you God for that bit of support and letting me know I'm on the right track.

Today my plans include finishing up one bit of HMWL business and then I'm off to the sewing room. I bought some new fabric yesterday and now my fingers are itching to sew. A bit of diversion from sitting in front of my friend Mrz Laptop!

Y'all have a really nice day now YA HERE!

NEW DESIGNER! BLACK CAT CREATIONS

We are a very close to opening day at Handmade with Love...
I know we've been saying it for a while now however, it really is going to very soon! So, keep your eyes peeled for OPENING DAY!

....please meet the brains behind our newest designers...from

Judy Reynolds
Mom was an excellent seamstress. She passed her techniques down to me. I had 3 kids and made just about everything they wore. While raising my kids, I drew, painted, and crocheted – just about any craft that came along.

At the prime age of 49, I graduated from college with an art degree. I painted for a year, and taught classes at many shops. Then I got a job at my local quilt shop. My palette changed from paints to fabrics. I began making baby quilts adding my own perspective and originality. The shop really appreciated having a budding designer in their midst and they encouraged me to create some original designs.

I started Black Cat Creations in 1998 but soon realized I would need some help to make my designs come to life. That’s about the time that Amy Cotham began working at the shop. We became partners and started marketing patterns our way.

It’s so much fun to open a catalog or magazine and see one of my designs. They seem to take on a life of their own. I hope everyone else enjoys making my patterns as much as I enjoyed creating them.

Amy Cotham
I think I was born crafting! I’ve always been interested in something – macramé, decoupage, crochet, folk art painting. I took my first quilting class in 1984. I was pregnant with my second child – bad timing. Have you ever tried to piece a Double Wedding Ring quilt on the machine when you couldn’t even reach the pedals? Well, with determination and lots of luck, I managed to get it done. That was the start of a love affair. No matter what craft trends have come and gone, quilting has always remained my #1.

Quilting has brought me so many great friends. In 1992, our family moved to Saudi Arabia. I quickly discovered that there wasn’t much to do, so I formed a quilting group – the Bedouin Piecemakers. Would you believe they’re still going strong today?

My love of quilting lead me to pursue a job at my local quilt shop. I’ve cut fabrics, sold machines, managed employees and kept the shop stocked. It was there that I met my partner, Judy Reynolds. With her art background, she was able to design beautiful original quilts that everyone just had to have. Together, we formed Black Cat Creations in 1998.

Since then, Judy and I have really enjoyed creating fun and easy patterns that appeal to quilters of all skill levels. We hope to continue to grow and expand as the market and our customer’s needs grow.

Handmade with Love is the "go to" site for Black Cat Creations newest pattern format. We will offer PDF form of  their most popular & "oldies but goodies"  patterns.

Black Cat Creations has several designers on board...you will be able to choose from several pattern types. So, now that you've met them....check 'em out here: Handmade with Love

Just to tease you a bit....

Kathy Adams of KoolKat Quilting

Kathy Adams of KoolKat Quilting is one of  Handmade with Love designers. We are so excited to have Kathy with us.

I had an opportunity to interview Kathy a while back and would love to introduce you to her. Hope you enjoy reading about her and her "rise to fame" in the quilting world.

Hi Kathy, how did you come up with the name for your company?

"I have always had cats as pets, right from when I grew up.  Currently we have one very spoilt Burmese cat named Kurtley.  Since I have been working from home, I have noticed how often the cat is stretched out sound asleep.  This led to thoughts like “If I come back, I’m coming back as that cat,” and from there to contemplating how “cool” the cat appeared to be in its whole approach to life.  Hence “KoolKat Quilting”

How did you get your start and who gave you your first “break” if they did?

"I have been quilting for the past 20 years and after having sent my quilts to a long arm quilting service and appreciating the benefits, I decided to purchase my first Gammill Classic in 2003.  My first “break” occurred shortly afterwards when a friend appeared on my door-step with five quilts.  “Heard you just bought a quilting machine,” she said. I had hardly opened the instruction book before I found myself plunging in at the deep end as a machine quilting service.  Some time after that I decided to start designing my own quilt patterns.  I have had art and design training and a love of designing and making things which has encompassed anything from making my own clothes, to pottery, lead-light glass work and now quilt patterns.  This background coupled with a working knowledge of design software such as CorelDraw, helped me get started.  A quilt shop in Brisbane took one of my first designs, Gather Ye Rosebuds, as a Block of the Month, and this, plus KoolKat’s machine quilting customers, has helped me to develop my quilt pattern design work."
What type “work” do you prefer?

"I love stained glass quilts, contemporary quilts, traditional quilts – everything!"

How long have you been at your craft?

"I started making quilts about 20 years ago – gosh, it is that long ago!  I thought it would be an easy and “cheap” hobby and that I could just use scraps of any old fabric – fortunately I am much wiser now.  But as my friends say – it’s still a lot cheaper than therapy!"

Who has been the most influential person in your craft career?

"My first quilting teachers and quilting friends were so very supportive and encouraging.  Quilting has been very relaxing during challenging times of my life. I have found the quilting world to be very positive – I love “show and tell” as do all quilters.  It is also a very social activity."

Kathy lives in Queensland, Australia in a large rural town. She has been married for thirty-four years and wonders "where they all went". Kathy and her husband have one daughter, twenty-eight years old and is currently studing."

What gives you the greatest JOY in life.

"I have so much to be grateful for – my wonderful husband, great family and friends, good health and many creative opportunities. The artistic drive is very strong within me. I love to see an original quilt design come to fruition.  After visualizing an idea it is wonderful to be able to touch and feel the finished item.  I am lucky, working professionally in the quilting field, that I have had access to the best quality machines and materials to help my work come to life.  Also, because I quilt full time, all the practice I have had over the years has developed my skills enormously so that I am now able to execute most of my ideas without too much frustration.

My goals for the next decade include getting my patterns and designs out there for more quilters to enjoy, entering some major quilt shows, and continuing to provide a terrific quilting service for all my customers."

Kathy, thank you so much for taking the time to answer our questions.

L@@K What I Found Today!

Hubby and I had to go buy a garbage disposal this morning. YUCK...but it is nice to be able to live with out the bucket under the sink for all the nasty stuff that had started leaking.

Tomorrow he promises to put up a new light fixture in my studio and while it is nothing fancy (shop fluorescent lighting) it works very well for the space I have. Once that is done we will only have one more light to replace and it will be finished.

Now having told you all the HONEY DO's....we headed right over to the quilt store  (a much better place to be than a hardware store) where I work and found some awesome 'tools' for my hand embroidery line coming out soon.

Once we were done there honey wanted to go to Hobby Lobby where I found some more goodies that will make my life easier for other new projects in line for the new "store" coming soon.

Now that all lead to my wondering the store just in case I might have missed something...and you know I did! Here is the cutest little thing I found to help dress up the window where I sit to sew....it is not just cute...it will give me inspiration to press on harder and harder so I can one day again be a full time WAHM!

Isn't it cute?

Just a view from across the room.

AND here is what I'll see as I sit at the machine.

OK. Now I've shared my cute little ditty and what I've done today. What have you been doing on this gorgeous day The Lord has made?

GrRrRr

There is nothing more frustrating than to purchase something new, use it for a week....then mess it up! Grrrrr

Bought a new rotary cutting mat and you all KNOW how expensive they are. Well, I was working on my "secret project" for listing in my ArtFire shop this morning. Have been using my pinking shears for the project and my hand gets so tired. (Guess I need to buy those new ergonomic ones...but any way.) Then I had a genius idea (she says chocking). Why not use that cute little pinking blade on that rotary cutter that you never use? Good IDEA! Wrong...I knew better than to use it on my new mat...but time was ticking and I couldn't wait to get this little "ditty" finished. So...

Yep, it gouged a ding in the brand new mat! Grrrrr

Can't say I didn't warn myself...I knew better...but then....lesson learned!

What have I been doing?

I've been MIA...well not really. Just busy posting and listing new product in the new Handmade With Love Art Fire store.

We have 12 designers including myself and my partner in crime (Melissa)! You'll find us by clicking HERE AND you can follow our blog by clicking on the little sewing machine fast at work quilting those teeny tiny hearts at the top of the screen!

We have so many beautiful patterns from very talented designers...don't miss out. Visit us today.

So, between my "real job" and my FUN TIME job I've been way to busy to even think about The Attic. :( With a little luck and a lot of prayer I hope to be a bit more active in the site for a while anyway.

Working on a "secret" project. Just a hint: you could be seeing a new line of plushies at Handmade with Love. That is ALL I'm sayin'!

BUT before I go...here is a sneak peak of just one of our patterns from KOOLKAT Quilting.

It's now time for me to finish getting ready for work...but it is FRIDAY!

TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK!

OUR HOME WAS BROKEN into 4 years ago this coming summer. While we have "recovered"...none of our personal effects were ever found. :-(

The "stuff" was just that...stuff(although my wedding rings were among the loot taken.)The scoundrels also did a lot of collateral damage to our home. Plan ole vandalism...we were at the end of a wonderful vacation in Eureka Springs, ARK when our grown daughter called with "the news".

While we were heart broken and sad we immediately started praying that God would not allow us to become bitter and that we would find it easy to pray for the person(s) responsible that they would come to know Him.

No we are not super Christian heroes or anything like that...we just knew that if we did not chose to "give it to Him" we would be personally affected in ways we did not want. Guess you could say we were selfish in that prayer.

Anyway...just wanted to give you a general background for what I am about show you!

My sewing/crafting room did not survive the break in...they took some things but thankfully things that were easily replaced...but the mess that was left behind was horrendous...fabric thrown, things moved and hidden under stuff...I mean these peeps had a lot of time to "do their thing" before they finally decided to leave!

It has taken me all these years to FINALLY get my room back to the way I wanted it and to MAKE IT MINE AGAIN! I would arrange and rearrange over and over and over again. Nothing seemed to 'work' for me. But the good news....I DID IT...it is finished and here is the 'evidence' to prove it.

The view from my kitchen:

Design wall and Accuquilt Go station. :-)

Cutting table:

The LONG awaited OFFICE...here is where I write and package your purchases!
This is NOW my favorite room in my house!

Sewing table with a great view to the outside world.

Fabric wall...NO THIS IS NOT ALL OF IT! There are tons in crates. LOL

And last but not least....going back into the kitchen.

Don't tell anyone but I love the fact that I have a concrete floor. I've scattered rugs around for a bit of warmth but cleaning up after a project is so easy. And don't you just love the added feature of the "old oil stained" look on the floor? LOL

In all the MakeOver my poor kitchen was sorely neglected...never fear...her MakeOver is next on the list. AFTER I get some sewin' done.

Now please tell me what you think!

Thursday Thoughfulness

2 Corinthians 3:5-7(NIV)

“Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God. He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.”

***God says we are competent in Him to be his ministers…to tell the story His new covenant Jesus.

SUNDAY SHARING Wardrobe Refashion or Repurpose

OK...I realize that most people don't consider aprons as part of their wardrobe. However, I do. Let's face it when you get home from work...you're tired...you need to start dinner...no time to change...solution...throw on an apron! Voila..wardrobe.

I can't live without my aprons and have made many utility aprons...some of which you can find in my Etsy and Handmade With Love online stores.

Some ladies have shoe, purse, hat fetishes...mine (please don't tell)is aprons. I love to make them...love to wear them.

I've joined Wardrobe Refashion for the next 2 months and while I've not had time (yet) to participate...I have done some refashioning in the past (yes, with aprons) and here are two I'd like to share with you.
This apron was made from 2 matching placemats found at my local thrift store. Folded one in half and stitched it to the other...made a seam down the middle of the top placemat to make 2 pockets...then sewed on a wide ribbon in contrasting colors for the tie.

This is by far my favorite re-purposed apron. It is made from a pillow case that I found at the same thrift store as the placemats just on a different visit. Front of pillowcase was the "body" of the apron while the opposite side was cut apart and made into the ties.

They both have been sold...I'm very excited about that.
